About the Author

Hailing from Springfield, Missouri, Isabelle Bauman received a Master of Science in Counseling from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Isabelle is an accomplished scholar and educator with a diverse academic background that has shaped a prolific career in the field of Communication. Her journey began in 1983 when she earned a Bachelor’s degree in General System Theory from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.

Little did she know that this foundational education would serve as a solid base for her future pursuits in social science.

Her commitment to exploring the complex dynamics of human interaction led her to pursue higher education. Bauman completed a Master of Arts degree in Communication in 1985 and later earned her Ph.D. in the same field in 1991, both from the prestigious University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Her passion for teaching emerged as a significant aspect of her career while holding a Graduate Assistantship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Teaching public speaking and group communication courses ignited a profound interest in education. This passion empowered Bauman to join the faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle after attaining her Ph.D. In 1997, she moved to Missouri State University.

As of 2023, Bauman has dedicated 27 years of her life at Missouri State University to teaching and researching in the field of interpersonal communication and more than 15 years teaching and researching in ways that mental health impacts on interpersonal communication.

Throughout her illustrious career, Bauman has garnered numerous honors and awards at Missouri State University, including the College of Arts and Letters Research Award (2002-2003), the University Teaching Award (1999-2000), the College of Arts and Letters Service Award (2005-2006), and a Missouri State University Assessment Grant (2022).
